Holy crud, what a year it's been! I think it's safe to say that everyone has had a pretty insane year, both good and bad, but fortunately at Skeletal Lightning we were able to accomplish some very cool things in 2016, and 2017 is already looking huge! We've got plenty more incredible releases planned - we can't wait to share it all with you!
Until then, here's a recap of all the fantastic music we had the pleasure of sharing with the world this year!
Ostraca - Deathless (Vinyl Reissue)
Honing in the sounds of the historic screamo bands before them, such as Usurp Synapse, CTTS, and City of Caterpillar, Ostraca take those strong influences and dial them up to 10, giving us what many would call the greatest screamo album of our generation .

Innards / The Caution Children - Split Innards kick out a track that is pure hardcore cacophony. If you took a standard hardcore blaster and then threw it in a blender, this is what you would get. Meanwhile, The Caution Children contrast the sonic attack with some spacious, soaring post-punk. Then, in a fun twist, they both cover each other's tunes to contrast their respective melody and mania. Purchase 7"/Tape Stream/Download Droughts - All Together
Taking cues from the likes of Rites of Spring, Thursday, and Planes Mistaken For Stars, All Together is a collection of the recorded history of the band, starting with their humble beginnings on debut EP "Unmoved," plus tracks from their splits with William Bonney, and Frameworks, Prawn, and Kittyhawk, and three exclusive new tracks that serve as a precursor to the band's upcoming LP, Stay Behind.
ilill / letters to catalonia - Split
You may have caught the relentless and crushing demo debut from California's letters to catalonia earlier this year, but now they're back with a vengeance with three brand new songs, paired with three new tracks from the emotive hardcore stylings of ilill (Tokyo, Japan).
Gillian Carter - Dreams of Suffocation
Gillian Carter’s latest full-length is a perfect swan song for a bygone friend. What Vocalist/Guitarist Logan Rivera has given is everything this two-piece could want to show -- brilliant, heartbreaking songwriting ransacked by dismay -- to portray how deeply this parting glance needed to be extended.

Knola - To The Rhythm
"On their first full-length record, To The Rhythm, Jack Senff on guitar and vocals, Garret Cabello on bass, and Joseph Goode on drums mix atmospheric, indie, and emo together so effortlessly it's almost rude." - Noisey. And boy, we just can't get enough. Victor Shores - You'll Get Better At It
Minneapolis mathy-emo trio Victor Shores marks their first standalone release in over four years with You'll Get Better At It, capturing the progression of life at its most extreme, combining elements of resentment, self-reflection, and change after the end of a tough breakup. FFO: Bayside, Boys Night Out, Tiny Moving Parts
Stream/Download The Reptilian - End Paths
The incredible swanlike anthem from Kalamazoo DIY vets, The Reptilian. Crafted emotionally and intelligently to never soften too much for punk crowds nor lose the indie crowd with simplicity. Eight passionately shouted calls from within rapid structures of dynamically spry post-hardcore melody and flowing, adrenal rhythm.
Youth Funeral - I Would Do It All Again
A two song cassingle, serving as a pre-cursor to New Hampsire hardcore trio's debut album, Heavenward. A perfectly simple treat for fans of noisey, violent, shattering hardcore.
Tyler Daniel Bean - On Days Soon To Pass
The long-awaited 2nd album from Burlington, VT native Tyler Daniel Bean. Songs confronting loss, devastation, and fear head on. This album is absolutely crushing emotionally, but in an entirely cathartic sense. A definite sleeper pick for any emo fans AOTY list. FFO: Pedro The Lion, American Football, mewithoutYou.
Youth Funeral - Heavenward
The raucous debut album from New Hampsire trio Youth Funeral. Intense and passionate - just the way we like it. Similar in vein to acts like Orchid, Loma Prieta, and Lord Snow. Released on 12/9. Purchase LP/Tape Stream/Download
